Lean Six Sigma 'making an impact in healthcare'

Dec 4 2009 2:51PM

The healthcare sector is one area where Lean Six Sigma processes are making an impact, according to an expert.

Writing for Six Sigma & Process Excellence, Lou Gorga has claimed the sector is "making strides" to improve performance and its image by embracing the developmental tool.

He explained that a focus appears to be on improving processes that generate bottom line contributions, such as revenue enhancement and reduced waste.

"Some of the healthcare enterprises are boldly using these Lean Six Sigma tools to improve clinical outcomes," he added.

Many believe there is "significant room" for other improvements and have targeted healthcare as "an opportunity-rich environment".

Earlier this week, supply chain management solutions provider Actio launched a new enhanced version of its Gatekeeper software, which has been proven to help firm cut material approval times.

The technology includes options designed to improve the implementation of such processes and boost the lifecycle management of certain products.ADNFCR-1942-ID-19496162-ADNFCR
