Airedale NHS Trust embraces Lean Six Sigma

A Lean Six Sigma expert has spoken of how Airedale NHS Trust has embraced techniques across its workforce.

Sue Speak, head of lean improvement at the trust, is rapidly being regarded as one of the leading experts in Six Sigma and has implemented over 90 projects using the techniques at Airedale General Hospital to date.

Ms Speak claims over a fifth of the 2,600 employees at the hospital have been trained in Six Sigma techniques.

"These range from small areas that needed straightening out utilising lean Six Sigma techniques to improve workplace organisation productivity to major rapid improvement events involving multi-disciplinary groups," she adds.

In the hospital's pharmacy porters, staff and consultants have all worked together to develop a new efficient service to benefit patients and other users, she highlights.

Standard Register recently signed a contract with Novation to improve document management processes at the healthcare facilities in Texas using Lean Six Sigma techniques.
