News brought to you by IQPC.

A medical centre in the US has been using Six Sigma techniques to streamline its business processes, it has been reported.

Fairfield Medical Centre used the tactics to reduce the length of time it took for bills to be sent to insurance companies, dropping the process from 57 days to 42 days using Six Sigma, reports the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.

The centre has also been working to use Six Sigma techniques to improve patients care.

Phil Meadows from the centre told the newspaper: "We've run some projects that are focused on, if someone were to come in with chest pain, how long does it take them to get an EKG and how can we minimise that time."

Fairfield Medical Centre has been recognised for its work by being named one of the five finalists in the 2009 Global Six Sigma and Business Improvement Awards, in the Best Achievement of Organisational Business Improvement in Healthcare.

International lift track distributor Barloworld Handling recently told how they had improved processes and customer satisfaction through the implementation of Six Sigma techniques.
