Six Sigma processes can help firms make real progress in both cost
cutting and going green, according to one expert.

Speaking to the Manufacturing and Technology eJournal, Evan Miller, president of Herztler Systems, explained that the same efficiency gains which can be made through Six Sigma can be applied to matters such as energy consumption, meaning that companies can save money and become more environmentally friendly at the same time.

"In this climate increasing numbers of companies are implementing Six Sigma techniques as an efficient and effective means to building a sustainable business and make their operations, products and services more socially responsible," he said.

Energy conservation offers the twin benefits of reducing costs and a firm's carbon footprint, Mr Miller added.

Recently, George Haley, a business professor at the University of New Haven, told Industry Week that while Six Sigma methods are a useful tool, firms should not expect to solve all their problems by applying it.ADNFCR-1942-ID-19151040-ADNFCR
