Firms using Lean Six Sigma processes could be missing out on the full benefits, according to a new report.

The Mapping & Modelling study, conducted on behalf of Corporate Modelling, the Life Annuity Group and the Lab, has warned that businesses which use the technique could be over looking other areas.

"One of the key findings is that large numbers of organisations are using a whole multitude of process improvement methods, but that those who are using approaches such as Six Sigma or Lean are far less likely to be using professional modelling tools in a co-ordinated fashion," the report stated.

It also found that there is a significant gap between those who advocate the use of technology in business process improvements and those who do not.

The overall aim of those using Six Sigma was to improve the analysis tools of their business process improvement team at the same time as cutting costs and reducing complexity, it concluded.

Recently, a white paper published by Bellwether Services urged procurement functions to embrace Six Sigma to help them cope during the recession.
