International engineering firm IntriCon has invested a large amount of cash in Six Sigma methods, it has been revealed.

The company, which focuses on creating body-worn devices including medical equipment, hearing aids and professional audio devices, saw a fall in gross profits but put this down to its strive for future improvements.

"We have various activities underway to increase our gross margins [including] significant investments to introduce Six Sigma lean manufacturing methods into key medical device product lines," a spokesperson for the firm said.

The firm also managed to increase sales in many areas last year and will be looking to build on this success, he added.

Recently, American financial services company KeyCorp revealed that it has saved $6 million (£4.2 million) over six years through the use of Six Sigma methods.

The company was assisted in the introduction of the processes by the Xerox Corporation which identified areas where costs could be cut.ADNFCR-1942-ID-19073897-ADNFCR
